3 Tips to Rocking Your First Audition

Auditioning can be intimidating, especially when you are doing it for a new company or group of people. Fortunately, Innovative Arts auditions are specially designed to give performers their best chance at success. It can still be nerve-wracking, though, so here are a few tips that will help quiet those nerves, and give you the confidence to shine at your first audition with us!

1. Be Prepared
The more familiar you are with your material, the more comfortable (and less nervous) you will be performing it. We really don't mind if you mess up a lyric or forget a bit of your song, but if you are worrying about what words to sing next, you won’t be able to have fun and show us your personality. So, make sure to schedule plenty of time in the weeks leading up to your audition to practice and memorize the material so all your energy at the audition can be poured into enjoying the moment and being the real you.

2. Be Loud and Proud
We want to hear you sing when you come into the room, so feel free to sing loud and show us what you've got! Don't worry about being perfect—we have lots of time to work with you and help you grow as a performer. The most important thing in your audition is to be audible and confident and show us that you love performing!

3. Have Fun
Remember that at Innovative Arts everyone who is ready for the musical program gets a featured role, so you have nothing to lose! We already want to work with you and are eager to see you realize your full potential, so don't hesitate to show us who you are and why you love musical theatre. The best way for you to do this is simply to come to the audition and have a blast!

We understand that for some of our students, auditioning is very new, so hopefully these tips will help you rock it! We look forward to seeing you at your audition and are excited to see you shine. Have a blast practicing!
