Innovative Arts is dedicated to empowering young performers to succeed not only on stage, but also in the real world. Our innovative training program is designed to nurture the performer by developing them as actors, singers and dancers while also developing the person by giving them the guidance, boundaries and challenging expectations they need to grow into responsible young adults. Our students make lasting friendships, learn to overcome differences and grow into responsible and confident performers under the direction of an accomplished, caring staff and a nurturing environment.

The Innovative Approach
With multiple small casts, every student receives a sizeable role that will help them reach their maximum potential. Innovative Arts’ full-time staff work diligently to ensure the process is organized, active, fun and ultimately, life-changing.

OUR CORE PHILOSOPHY
That positivity is the best tool to help our students grow and that through the medium of music theatre, youth are learning the building blocks to succeed in every other aspect of their lives.

Innovative Arts in Oakville and Toronto specifically designs quality productions with smaller casts. Giving every student a challenging role provides the performer the opportunity to reach their maximum potential. With singing, dancing, and acting training, performers get individual attention when training to perform their role.

At every rehearsal located at our new Oakville Rehearsal Facility on Wyecroft (Company A & B), or Gyros Gymnastics (Toronto), a faculty of industry professionals are working and guiding performers to ensure that they grow and truly shine during their big performance. Students are always learning and engaged instead of watching others have all the fun. At every rehearsal, all cast members rotate stations and work specifically on each performance need, such as choreography, vocals, & blocking/acting.

Through a supportive staff, individual attention, and a revolutionary rehearsal process, selected hopefuls are given a valuable, exciting, and fun opportunity to grow as a performer and as an individual.

What to expect.

What we expect from all Performers

  • Respectful and a positive attitude: This is a team activity in which we need to help each other grow in a positive, optimistic and judgement free environment.
  • Stay on top of what you need to do: When in doubt, check back to our email updates which are also posted on our app and online cast portal. We will guide you through each step of the process!
  • Don't be late, be early: We need to use every minute we have and we take constant tardiness as a sign of disrespect.
  • Hold yourself to a higher standard than you ever have before: Arrive early, warm up, dress appropriately, work ahead, memorize your lines, write lots of blocking notes, practice with friends, etc. You get out what you put into this experience, please do everything you can to respect your cast-mates, directors, and yourself.
  • Trust us: We are experts at what we do, we need you to focus and grow in confidence during each rehearsal, anything happening outside of that you can leave to us and know that we have your best interests in mind.
  • Spread the word: Nobody likes to perform for a small audience, your big show is up to you to fill! Every performer is asked to bring a minimum of 20 people to ensure that we can continue to perform in quality performance spaces in the future. You will also need to work with your teachers to organize a field trip to ensure you have a matinee performance as well!

What we expect from the designated Guardian(s)

  • Read the Weekly Email Updates in their ENTIRETY: We know you lead a busy life, but your child needs your help to succeed. We pride ourselves on being concise, but there is a lot to communicate when mounting a musical. It will save us all a lot of time if you please respect our email updates and meet any deadlines provided. If you have checked the email updates and we have not been clear about something, please feel free to contact us as no question is too small when it comes to our student's success.
  • Please ensure all performers get to rehearsal on-time or early: If you would like to connect with others in your neighbourhood, we would be happy to help as we know how much carpooling helps everybody!
  • Feed our stars well: We work hard at rehearsal and only have a 12-15 minute break in the middle. Please ensure all performers are well fed before rehearsal and send them with a filling snack. You can also register for our meal program which will supply either a meal from Tim Hortons or Pizza at each rehearsal.
  • Please ensure payments are made on time:
  • Trust Us: Our creative team works tirelessly for our students and we need your support. We do our best to communicate only what everyone NEEDS to know; so if a concern arises please do not assume the worst and feel free to know that things are in good hands and that we would be happy to meet with you to help clarify a special circumstance that may arise.
  • Spread the word: Nobody likes to perform for a small audience, your big show is up to you to fill! Every performer is asked to bring a minimum of 20 people to ensure that we can continue to perform in quality performance spaces in the future. Please support your child as well in communicating with their teacher(s) to organize the school show field trip.
